Charlie Kirk the Icon of Fake Christians
Where do we even begin with such a heated topic. What happened to Charlie Kirk was a tragedy and murdering people is never okay. Nonetheless erasing history is also not okay. Whenever we try to have an honest and fair discussion about Charlie Kirk’s legacy any terrible thing he says is reacted to with, “But you’re taking it out of context.” I ask you in what context is saying a woman loses her beauty when she turns 30 acceptable? In what context is saying people getting shot is worth it acceptable? And in what context is calling a black pilot who had to pass all sorts of rigorous certification unqualified acceptable? Yes his insulting speech was to back up a political position and argument, but there are better ways. Demonizing others is not the way. There’s no excuse or defense for his vile language. Many Christians are horrified by the way he has been elevated to saint status. Others saw this coming. If you grew up in the Christian faith which most Americans did then by all means you’ve seen these people in real life and you know they exist.
I don’t know about you but I’m pretty sick of it. Christianity is a beautiful religion of peace and mercy. The number of young people who have been driven away from God’s embrace because of the actions of these so-called Christians is devastating to me. If you’re a Christian it should also be devastating to you. It can’t go on this way. This religion will not survive another century if we don’t do something about it. Is it gonna be comfortable to speak up? No, of course not. Is it easy? Again, no, but it is the job of everyone who calls themselves Christian as the Christian path was never intended to be easy or comfortable. It was meant to challenge us to face our own ugliness as sinners and repent. God is love. God is patient. God is kind. So I don’t know what God these Christians are worshiping but it can’t possibly be the same as the one Jesus shared with us.
Every time we elevate a man like Charlie Kirk to saint status we drive more young people away from the church essentially killing the Christian faith. You’re stabbing a knife through Christ’s heart and you don’t even care. And you call yourselves Christians. If there’s one thing Jesus made very clear he didn’t have much patience for its hypocrisy. You wear your cross and you go to church on Sunday, but when it comes to an opportunity to be able to actually make a difference and do the work of Christ you’re nowhere to be found. Charlie Kirk is only a friend to one kind of person-white men. He was horrible in his speech to women, to liberals, to blacks, to Latinos, to Mexicans, to the LGBT. There’s probably even more people he insulted and hurt very deeply that I don’t even know about. When did Christ teach any of you this? Don’t say it’s out of context. There’s no appropriate context for such speech.
“Well yeah but at least he was willing to talk things out right?” Was he? I’ve watched the debates. Maybe we have two very different definitions of civil debate. Did he attack people? Not necessarily, but did he give them a chance to talk? From what I’ve seen he talked over people and interrupted them, cutting them off constantly. Essentially he silenced his opponents in favor of attempting to humiliate them and make them look stupid even though he didn’t even fully listen to their argument in the first place. If this is your idea of a civil debate maybe you should read the New Testament again. Jesus debated the Pharisees over and over and He never ever cut them off. He listened to what they had to say and then spoke. He never tried to silence anyone, He didn’t even try to insist that He was right. He knew that those who will believe, will believe, and those who won’t, won’t. Does this even sound remotely close to Charlie Kirk? If you think yes then maybe you’re looking in the wrong places. Step outside of your echo chamber and see the truth for yourselves with your own eyes.
There was another shooting that day. The victims were the children of Columbine survivors. These children just had the trauma of their parents pushed onto them. If they thought the world was unsafe before they will definitely be certain of it now. But did anyone care? No. We only honored Charlie Kirk that day. A man who preached hate In the Name of Christ. Who grew up with a very wealthy and fortunate life. Who never knew the struggles of the average man. Not only did we honor him, but his casket was carried in Air Force 2 and he got a White House funeral. Why? We have political shootings all the time in this country, yet I don’t see the other victims getting the red carpet treatment. Nope, that treatment was reserved for a man of wealth like Charlie Kirk.
If you truly believe this is a man who spoke the truth of God then you never knew Him. It’s time to crack open that Bible that’s been gathering dust and start studying. You may think that the ideologies that some young people believe in today are damaging to society. But even Jesus didn’t walk up to sinners and tell them how much He loathed them and their beliefs. He was kind and gentle with them. Saint Matthew became an apostle specifically because Jesus did not condemn him. That kindness and mercy drew him into God’s embrace when the rest of the world around him was too busy pointing fingers. If you truly believe that the beliefs of the young today are damaging then why are you not approaching the situation as Jesus would? Where is your excuse for that?
For far too long we have witnessed Christianity be abused in the name of conservative politics. For far too long we have watched Christians try to control the people around them and pretend it’s In the Name of Christ. None of this is Christ. This is human beings projecting their views, as humans often do, onto their God. But Christ was not a human being at his core. He did not think like you and me and for you and me to think like Him would be a challenge. Jesus was not like men and for far too long we’ve acted like he was. We’ve forgotten His divinity. We will bow to His altar, but then we talk about Him like He was just a man. Atheists give Him more respect. Even if you claim He’s your God with your lips, as long as you see Him as like you, you’re not worshiping God. You’re worshiping yourself. We are all made in God’s image, but our minds are human and tainted by the sin of Adam and Eve.
The whole reason that Jesus was a breath of fresh air for His generation was because He was so different from what man was. Man spent its time pointing fingers, blaming, and preaching hate. Like Charlie Kirk did. But Jesus was there to tell them how wrong that was. He showed them there was a better way. A way that involved kindness, mercy, and compassion. For the people of His generation that idea was mind blowing. They’d never met someone so good in a world that seemed so bad. If people are pointing the fingers at you as a Christian saying that you are not preaching kindness and love then you would do well to listen. To be persecuted for your religion you would have to be acting on your religion. Too many in this country have not acted on their religion in a very long, long time. If you believe God is telling you to speak harshly to someone else you should check yourself because it may very well just be the devil misleading you. And if you act in the name of the devil you will be called out In the Name of Christ.
